Recently I have worked on this new Durus Multipurpose WordPress Theme It’s a nice theme with many feature like Drag & Drop Builder, Parallax Background, Video Background and without any doubt it’s responsive. So other then breaking I Plan to create a WordPress Child Theme for Durus.
But while playing with it, I found only few handful resource to develop a Child Theme of it. I was not able to make any change to the post section from the Durus Theme Drag & Drop Builder. My objective was to create a Child theme with different arrangement of the post section. So I move on to dig deep, and find it’s use a Visual Composer by wpbakery, Which is very popular among developer with over 33K sale on CodeCanyon and I’m happy with the theme as I can make a WordPress Child Theme for Durus, with the objective I have.
To Start-up WordPress Child Theme for Durus …
I have used Durus’s that came along with the theme, and added new function to it as needed. The most basic thing I changed on the child theme is I copied the main template folder and used on child by back WordPress thing like index.php, page.php
Regarding the new function I add is to create 2 shortcode that will work with the main Durus theme without breaking anything of it. The two new shortcode is ready to use on my Child Theme for Durus are
vc_blog_news
which will return a new content structure (as u see on feature image) and
vc_blog_press
will return the same structure of the news but in place on “read more” It will add a download link, which is a part of the main theme, ie u can add the content directly to the outer custom links.

Today 08/29/2014 I have added a post meta box using the parent theme rwmb_meta_boxes function. This meta box capture publication and publish date date of normal post. I have used this meta box data only for News post, but it can be added to any posts.
